The Elenbe awards are sponsored by the Wayne County Council for the Arts and Lyons National Bank--L.N.B. get it?! :) The Elenbes started in 1997 and the Newark school district had a hand in its' organization. Volunteer judges (usually 15-20) from around the county attend the school plays and musicals and fill out evaluation sheets. Directors submit student actor names and roles to be adjudicated ahead of time.
It's like our very own Wayne County Tony Awards!
Last night Olivia won TWO Elenbes! We are so proud of her. Below are the videos of her acceptance speeches.
First her win for Best Supporting Actress in a Play for her role as Minnie in The Farnsdale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society's Production of Macbeth
And her win for Runner Up Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her role as Bambi in Curtains! Woo woo woo!
Newark's play also won runner up for Best Drama! Here's the director and most of the cast:
Here's Liv with the director Steve, a hug from mom, with friends and posing with her two awards!
Olivia's awards join mine from 1999! Mom was thrilled because the Emcee-Don Alhart had everyone stand in the audience that had won an Elenbe in past years. So here's mine for Best Lead Actress in a Musical (Adelaide) in Guys and Dolls. The awards may have changed in appearance but nothing can change the thrill of being acknowledged for doing something you truly love!
